We look at every aspect of our operations to identify areas of efficiency to optimize how we use resources across the business.

Energy use continues to be our
top source of emissions—but is
also the area of greatest progress.
With 87% of our employees working
permanently from home, we have
seen our office electricity emissions
drop 49% between 2016 and 2022.
Home office electricity emissions
now account for 35% of total
electricity emissions. This result was
driven by a wide variety of actions,
from reducing our real estate
footprint and using smart technology
to powering down electricity when
not in use. We also utilize preventive
maintenance to identify equipment

efficiencies, thereby reducing energy
usage and carbon emissions.
As we shifted to working from home,
we significantly reduced our real
estate footprint. We consolidated the
Phoenix Law Office into the Glendale
(Arizona) facility and the Mt. Laurel
Law Office (New Jersey) into the Mt.
Laurel Service Center, reduced our
space in Oklahoma City, contracted
our space in Colorado Springs, and
consolidated five floors to one floor in
our Walnut Creek (California) headquarters. We also removed backup
generators from Oklahoma City and
Las Vegas, eliminating emissions from
testing and use. These efforts are
helping us strive toward our decarbonization targets, and we will continue to focus on these areas as we
refine how and where we work.
Finally, the purchase of renewable
energy certificates (RECs) continues
to play an important role in our shift to
green electricity that began in 2021.
By purchasing RECs, we are helping
to drive increased demand for
development of green energy projects
across the utility-provider landscape.
We remain committed to conserving
water at all of our locations.
Investments we made in lowirrigation landscaping, auto faucets,
and low-flush toilets were designed
to save nearly 800,000 gallons of
water annually versus conventional
office buildings. As employees
continue to work remotely, last year
we saved nearly 2 million gallons
of water compared to 2021, and
water usage across all of our office
locations is nearly 40% lower than
pre-pandemic levels.
