Our Impact
2023
CSAA remains committed to action
outside our walls, supporting a wide
array of initiatives that leverage the
combined strength of many private
and public organizations to achieve
aspirational environmental goals.
Complementing CSAA’s direct
action every year, we also seek and
evaluate investments in emerging
opportunities, including forest
restoration and wildfire mitigation.
institutions and researchers at
work on solving climate issues. The
program spotlights how climate
leaders in the Bay Area are creating
solutions in the areas of energy,
carbon reduction (including food/
agriculture), buildings, transportation,
drought and wildfires.
CSAA is also an active member of
the Business Council on Climate
Change (BC3), a San Francisco-based
multi-sector partnership dedicated
to incubating, scaling and sharing
world-leading solutions to address
climate change.

Center (WIRC) at San Jose State
University, CSAA supports highimpact wildfire research. The WIRC
does modeling and predictive work
that helps forecast smoke impacts,
where a fire is going to go and its
behavior, and the effects of weather
and climate change on these fires.
It aims to build higher-resolution
prediction and risk models that will
be crucial for insurance due to the
growing frequency of large wildfires
and the volume of fire- and smokedamage claims.
CSAA also is a proud member
of the Insurance Institute for
Business & Home Safety (IBHS),
which conducts objective, scientific
research to identify and promote
effective actions that strengthen
homes, businesses and communities
against natural disasters and other
causes of loss. The IBHS Wildfire
Prepared Home is the first-ever
wildfire mitigation program to
allow homeowners to achieve a
designation showing they have taken
the science-based actions required
to meaningfully reduce their home’s
wildfire risk. CSAA offers discounts
for California homeowners and
communities that meet certain IBHS
criteria to help incentivize them to
decrease their fire risk.
