2023
From Our Interim CEO
Recycling and repurposing
We remain committed to conserving
water at all of our locations.
Investments we made in lowirrigation landscaping, auto faucets
and low-flush toilets were designed
to save nearly 800,000 gallons of
water annually versus conventional
office buildings.
In 2023, CSAA added emissions from
paper use to our reduction targets and
took further steps to build awareness
of and reduce paper usage. Since
2019, we have significantly reduced
printed marketing materials, and we
have also expanded digital capabilities
across CSAA. The increased demand
for digital distribution and digital
materials has been driven by many
factors, including the shift to remote
work, but it also corresponds with our
efforts to reduce paper usage and
increase paperless communication.
We have invested in digital payments
to reduce checks; digital document
uploading and processing capabilities
to reduce our paper trail; and a
simplified MyPolicy, which allows
members to access and manage their
policy through a desktop or mobile
browser, to support digital self-service.
Each year, we increase customer
adoption of paperless communication.
At the end of 2023, 32.5% of our
policies were paperless—up from 30%
in 2022 and 24.9% in 2021.
Our eWaste program manages
the harmful effects of electronics
that are no longer needed by the
company. By refurbishing and
recycling 16,559 pounds of eWaste
in 2023, we reduced 23,000 pounds
of greenhouse gases from the
atmosphere. For proper eWaste
disposal, we engage a vendor, resulting
in very little going to the landfill.
