Last word 3 The True Meaning of Christmas
Nicola Spreckley
In today's day and time,
It's easy to lose sight,
Of the true meaning of Christmas
And one special night.
The children look for Santa
In his big, red sleigh
Never thinking of the child
In his bed made of hay.
When we go shopping,
We say, "How much will it cost?"
Then the true meaning of Christmas,
Somehow becomes lost.
In reality, when we look up
into the night9s dark sky,
We don't see a sleigh
But a bright star burning high.
Amidst the tinsel, the glitter
And the ribbons of gold,
We forget about the child,
Born on that night, bitter cold.
It9s a faithful reminder
Of that night long ago,
And of the child we call Jesus,
Whose love we would know.

As the year draws to a close and we move into the festive season, we
reflect on the year that has been and look ahead to the new. After a
turbulent year - elections, wars, storms and droughts - we could all do with

happiness and celebration. But it can bring challenges.
What is the meaning of Christmas? For some, it is the story of Father
Christmas and his elves making and delivering gifts to all the Children of
the world. The birth of Jesus is sometimes muted, although always in the
background, as schools9 nativity plays remind us each year.
If you ask children 8What is Christmas about?9 you may get the same
answer that my own children gave:
