Crockham Hill February 2025 Newsletter - Flipbook - Page 20
Elsewhere in this edition of the newsletter, you will read about our appeal.
I hope that you will agree that you do not need to be Christian to recognise
the importance of Holy Trinity Church in the life of the village, or to imagine
the impact if, one day, we became unable to pay the bills. If you already
donate to the upkeep of the church, thank you but please consider
whether you can afford to give a little more. If you do not already donate
then please, if you can afford to do so, take a little time to set up a regular
payment. You will be helping to secure the future of Holy Trinity to the
benefit of the whole community now and in years to come. Thank you.
Road Safety in Spout Lane
Anne Blissett
Terry and I, Alex and Hugh Maule and Jay and Ann Pearson have attended
several Westerham Town Council (WTC) meetings in connection with
traffic speeds in Spout Lane and along Main Road. The WTC Councillors
seem to be constrained by finances imposed on them by Kent County
Council (KCC). However, our case has now been added to their Highway
Improvement Plan (HIP) process.
Vehicles turn at speed into the Lane from
Main Road and it has become increasingly
difficult and dangerous to exit the eleven
private driveways, by car and on foot. Many
residents are elderly. With no pavement,
there are frequently children, dogs, cyclists
and horses who have to press themselves
Narrow Spout Lane - no pavement(s)
into the hedge as vehicles speed by.
We have discussed several solutions with WTC.
1. Enlarge the pavement corner of Spout Lane by the old telephone box
opposite 8The Royal Oak9, to slow down the traffic entering from Main
Road. KCC refuse on the grounds it would further narrow the road where
the cars parked outside the cottages and Royal Oak already narrow it for
the traffic coming from Edenbridge.
2. Introduce prominent signage on entering Spout Lane from Main Road
and from Pootings, alerting drivers to the narrow road ahead.
3. Remove the central white line and cats9 eyes as they imply space for two
vehicles to pass, which is not the case. Spout Lane was not built for the size
and volume of traffic from both directions. Unable to pass, there are
