The appellation was first
planted to grapes in 1862
by pioneering vintner Jacob
Schram. Today, due to

he Diamond Mountain
District is nestled amidst
the Mayacamas Mountains
in the northwestern corner
of Napa Valley. Its name is
derived from the abundant
deposits of obsidian and
volcanic glass in the soils.
Diamond Mountain’s soils
are volcanic and porous,
predominantly reddish in
nature, with significant rock
content.
Diamond
Mountain’s
NAPA
rugged terrain,
only 500 acres
of vineyard are
planted. Surrounding
the vineyards are
dense forests of
redwood, conifers, and
madrones. This mountainous
appellation spans an
elevation of 400 to 2200
feet above Calistoga at the
valley’s northern end.
