The Sacrashe Vineyard, perched on a rolling
plateau rising above Rutherford on the
eastern slopes of the Vaca Mountain Range,
was first planted to vineyards in 1981. Craig and
Kathryn Hall acquired a portion of the vineyard
in 1995 and the property is also the location of
the HALL Rutherford winery. The vineyard has
a southern exposure and panoramic views from
San Francisco to St. Helena. Over its four-decade
history, the vineyard has produced some of the most
memorable and age-worthy wines from the Napa Valley.

At an elevation of 790 feet, the vineyard is slightly cooler
than the Rutherford appellation and typically lies above the
fog line. Lake Hennessey is situated directly to the east of the
vineyard at a somewhat lower elevation and the lake provides
a subtle moderating impact on the temperatures.
The soils are volcanic tuff, which is a relatively soft and
porous rock that is formed by the compaction of volcanic
ash. These light, sandy soils are mixed with significant rock
and lie over a structure of solid bedrock. Soil depth in the
vineyard ranges from 12 to 40 inches leading to difficult
growing conditions for the grapevines. This combination
of challenging soils develops small clusters of exceptional
density, subtle complexity, and elegance.
