The Community-Police Relations Foundation (CPR Foundation) is a non-profit organization that strives to enhance
the relationship between law enforcement and the community they serve. The Foundation accomplishes this
through active members and by identifying the requirements of the community and collaborating with law
enforcement agencies to fulfill those needs through increased interaction and cooperation.
CPR Foundation Supports 24-hour Hotline and Peer-to-Peer
Law Enforcement Mental Health Response Programs
On September 28, 2023, the MiamiDade County Association of Chiefs of
Police announced the launch of the
Regional First Responder Peer Support
Team Program in partnership with
CPR Foundation and the Boulder Crest
Foundation. This program provides
peer-to-peer support opportunities to
help officers and their families who
may be experiencing mental health
issues. It empowers them to engage
with
other
certified
peer
law
enforcement, first responders and
advocates for the importance of
resources that enhance their health
and safety. The program was launched
on October 2nd and has 18 sworn
officers who are trained to serve as
Peer Support Team members.
The peer support team program offers
a safe outlet for police officers to
engage in shared experiences with
other law enforcement personnel. It
promotes the idea that officers are
never alone and eases the residual
effects of years of service to the
community. The program reinforces
mental health education and the wellbeing of officers by providing
strategies to address concerns and
enhanced self-confidence for better
policing. Mental health trauma affects
every part of an officer's life, and this
peer-to-peer
support
program
positively impacts their relationship
with families, friends, and residents.
