Career Progression
Huge congratulations to Laurence Collins, our
geologist based at Rigifa, who has been
awarded an MSc with distinction in Engineering Geology
from the University of Newcastle following a two-year
period of part-time study. This is an amazing achievement
and we wish Laurence well in his future career at Leiths.
Laurence (R) with Colin Ortlepp, Planning and
Development Manager
Scott Darling, Company Director at Markon, has successfully passed the
Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence qualification
during the summer.
Scott has been with the company for over 24 years, first in the role of Planing Manager, then
latterly in the position of Company Director. He began his working life at 16 years of age
working on his family’s farm before joining
Kings/Tarmac Roadstone as a machine
operative in the 1980’s. A few years later
he was able to take his HGV Class 1 (C+E
nowadays) driving test and started a new
role the very next day, driving for a road
haulage company delivering goods across
the UK, which he continued to do for 5
years.
By this time Scott had become a father
and decided that life on the open road
was no longer in his future. He joined a
local surfacing company operating their
1m planer for over 10 years when he was
given an opportunity to join Markon in
Cumbernauld.
Completing the Transport Manager CPC
is a great achievement. “The training is
super intensive; the studying cannot be
approached with anything less than 100%
commitment and I was elated when I
received the good news that I had passed
all the exams”.
Congratulations Scott.
Employee Voice
The Leiths Employee Voice team meets
quarterly to provide regular engagement
with employees to discuss and resolve
any issues and to listen to employee
suggestions, ensuring any barriers are
addressed.
The previous Health & Wellbeing Meeting is incorporated
into this new forum to include more employees and
discuss a wider agenda. Remote employees attend via
TEAMS – this allows for more communication with peer
groups to define and align to consistency.
