Leiths Sponsor Portlethen Academy Football Team
Grant Milne, CEO, alongside the Portlethen Academy S2 Football Team and Euan Lawson, Depute Headmaster
support to the pupils but also offers our company valuable exposure and a
positive association with youth sports and community development.
We were delighted to sponsor this year’s S2 football team
at Portlethen Academy in Aberdeenshire, providing their
new strips for a busy season ahead.
It is important that we continue to work in close collaboration with local
schools and enhance the experience and morale of the children who one day
may choose to pursue a career with Leiths.
The youngsters are certainly dedicated and committed to representing their
school with pride which was evident when we visited to see them proudly
wearing their new kit. Sponsoring the teams strip not only provides essential
Glenurquhart Highland Games
In the early years the games were centered around six-a-side shinty contests
and evolved to include other track and field events typically associated with
highland games including, throwing weights & hammers, tossing the caber,
the Achmony hill race, tug-o-war, and the long jump. The games now prides
itself on a long tradition of attracting the very best local athletes whilst being
seen as the jewel in the crown of Highland Gatherings. After a 2 year break
due to the pandemic, the games returned bigger and better than ever with
Leiths making their annual donation of 10t of building sand for the long
jump event.
Long Jump Competition 2024
The long jump is divided into several categories including under 16’s and
adults – and this year’s under 16 boys’ event was won by David Hart.
Sand being delivered prior to the games
In July, Leiths agreed to donate a 10t load of building sand
from our Midlairgs Quarry in Inverness for use in the long
jump pit at the annual Glenurquhart Highland Games held
in Drumnadrochit.
The games can trace their origins back to the mid 1940’s where, after 6
years of WW2, the war weary folk of Glen Urquhart were looking forward
to life returning to normal holding a public meeting on 8 July 1945 in
Drumnadrochit’s Blairbeg Hall. An 18 strong committee was formed under
the chairmanship of village headmaster Alistair C McKell with other local
legends such as Inverness strong man and gym teacher Donald Dallas also
being appointed.
