UNDERGRADUATE EXCELLENCE
College of Education student Caleb Brown
received the Martin Luther King Jr. Award
for Excellence in Service at the 41st Annual
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration.
The award recognizes excellence in
service to the University or surrounding
community as well as advocacy for social
and environmental justice, areas involved
in advancing Dr. King’s vision of the
“beloved community.”
Brown was a secondary education major
before graduating in 2024, and he is a
current teacher resident in the College of
Education. Brown is also part of the Call
Me MiSTER® program, a program designed
to increase the pool of available teachers
from broader, more diverse backgrounds
particularly among the State’s lowest
performing elementary schools.
“I’ve learned a lot about my
leadership style whether
that’s in the gym with my
team or in the workplace.
I’m learning a lot about
myself and how I work, and I
think that will help me in the
workforce in my future.”

“From a secondary math
standpoint, the opportunity to be
able to double major in education
and mathematics makes for a
unique experience that I’m not
sure you can get in many other
places. I also look forward to
taking in the information from the
experts we hear from in Teaching
Fellows and applying that in my
classroom.”

is collaborative. Everyone
here wants you to grow
and develop and be the
best educator you can be.
Everyone sees your potential.”
