Brandon’sparents sat down withthe Clackamas CountySheriff’s Office to tellBrandon’s story in apowerful video they hopewill raise awareness about the very real dangersof fentanyl.Fentanyl is an incredibly powerful syntheticopioid — 50 times stronger than heroin and100 times more potent than morphine. It’s alsothe number-one killer of Americans ages 18-45nationwide. Drug overdoses claimed 100,000lives across the U.S. during the 12-month period18Fentanylending April 2021 — thedeadliest year on record— and 64% of thosedeaths were attributed tosynthetic opioids, mainlyfentanyl. One additional complication in the fentanylepidemic is that manyoverdose victims may not even realize they’retaking a pill laced with fentanyl.Fentanyl is often pressed into counterfeit pillsintended to resemble something you’d pick upfrom a pharmacy, such as Oxycodone — and auser may not know the pill they took was lacedwith fentanyl until it’s too late.Locally, the statistics are startling. Our deputieshave seen a dramatic increase in overdose callsinvolving counterfeit Oxycodone / M30 pills, andit’s only getting worse. In just the first two monthsof 2022, the number of seized fentanyl pillsincreased 195% over the entire year of 2021 —and 367% over the entire year of 2020.According to the Clackamas County MedicalExaminer’s Office and Public Health Division, fentanyl was found in the toxicity report of fatal-overdose victims 6 times in 2019, 18 times in 2020,and 34 times in 2021 (with more toxicity reportspending, meaning the number may be far higher).Thank you to Brandon’s family for bravelysharing their story. We hope it helps save a life.Watch ‘No SecondChances: Brandon’sStory’ here:←
