he successful apprehension and prosecution of criminals
depends on ensuring the security and integrity of crime
scenes and the proper collection and review of evidence.
To that end, the Sheriff’s Office deploys certified forensic investigators, examiners, and image specialists from our Crime Scene
Investigation, Computer Forensics, and Forensic Imaging teams to
gather, document, store, and examine case-related evidence.
• The primary duty of the Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Unit is to process crime scenes for
detectives. This can include determining firearm ballistic trajectories, collecting residue and biological matter, and lifting latent fingerprints for further processing and identification in a crime lab.

• Nearly every modern interaction with a victim, witness or suspect involves an electronic
device — whether it’s a phone, navigation system, gaming console, smartwatch, laptop, desktop
computer or tablet. Computer Forensic Examiners retrieve and preserve digital evidence on
such devices, whether those devices are new or obsolete.
• Our Forensic Imaging Unit compiles and analyzes video from surveillance cameras and
other sources, and also creates composite sketches — helping victims, witnesses, attorneys
and investigators identify suspects and persons of interest. Our Forensic Imaging Specialist has
collaborated with the State Forensic Anthropologist to create complex post-mortem sketches,
building pictures of the deceased from skeletal remains and other clues gathered at crime scenes
to help Detectives identify unknown remains.
