idly turning book pages, while all 26 minutes of Sanskrit
chanting soaked his pores. At the final cadence of fading
Oms he lay down on his pillow and tucked himself in …
something had clearly shifted.
So, what gift could I really leave behind? In my sixth decade,
I was still joyfully singing and serving the world but with
an ever-increasing awareness that my runway was much
shorter. Maybe I should compile at least some of these songs
in a simple recording so my grandsons could hear them at
times when I was not there? That was the genesis of Ammu’s
Treasures.
The recording session was meant to be a quick, three-day
trip to the one-of-a-kind MASS MoCa with a small musical
cabinet, to sing and record 35 songs and Sanskrit chants.
Except, as all good things do, it blossomed. Every musician
in the room, captivated by the purity and spirit of the songs,
urged me to create a fuller album as a gift for children and
for anyone who had a hole in their heart for love. They
