LOCAL SCHOOL SHOWCASE
What are the students like?
They are intellectually curious, articulate communicators
who love their educational community. When I first
came to Woodbridge School I was blown away by how
many former students, Old Woodbridgians, remain in
contact with one another, with their closest friends
remaining their school friends, and this reinforces just
how much they love their School.
Extra-curricular activities:
The School is renowned for its plethora of clubs,
activities and academic societies which take
place at lunchtime and after school. Whether it
is our nationally acclaimed cross country running
programme, which makes the most of our stunning
grounds, through to the numerous stellar Drama
productions that take place in our theatre that can
seat over three hundred, there is something for
everyone to be involved in.
Why should people living in Manningtree consider
Woodbridge School? Do many students travel from
places like Manningtree?
Absolutely. We have a wide-reaching number of
routes that our minibuses take – no doubt you
will see them on your travels in the area – and is a
surprisingly short distance, especially as you are
going against the main flow of traffic in coming to
Woodbridge.
There are plenty of
schooling options
in and around
Manningtree.
Here, we have
sampled some of
the best education
in the local area,
ranging from
nursery to higher
education.
What have been your biggest successes/challenges
as Headteacher?
Coming through Covid was challenging as it was
fighting fires; often with little to no notice. However,
the way that our staff and students responded
remains one of my proudest moments.
Everyone came together as a community, even remotely
(which demonstrates just how strong the culture actually
is), to ensure that learning would not be impacted.
Do you work with other local organisations to offer
anything special to students?
We have superb relationships with many local
organisations (for instance, our Art students have
just put on a wonderful exhibition of their work at
Snape Maltings, right after an equally successfully
period at ArtSpace in the town) and this is a major
strength of the School.
The Senior School also provides a Primary
Enrichment programme where we work with many
primary schools in the area so that together we can
enjoy wide ranging opportunities – from CSI in the
laboratory through to a Shakespeare masterclass.
What are your hopes for the future of your school?
I always say that the best measure of a school is
the students that it launches into the wider world.
Therefore I will continue to ensure that our students
leave us ready to make a difference to the world that
they find themselves in.
