A DESIGN INTERVIEW WITH GEORGE CLARK
Who do you think this development most appeals to
– and why?
The development has a very broad appeal for people
of all ages and family sizes. If you’re young and want
a beautiful family home where your kids can grow up
in a beautiful location, then it is a wonderful place to
live.
Hybrid working is here to stay. How is this reflected in
the design of the new homes at Manningtree Park?
We have to provide a space for people to work at
home, but also feel like they are away from home.
It is all too easy to be distracted when working
from home, so it is vital to create a space that feels
separate and private.
There are some outstanding schools not too far away.
If your kids have flown the nest and you’re looking for
a place for a slightly slower, gentler pace then I can
see Manningtree Park very much providing a home
where you would be very happy indeed. Likewise, if
you’re a commuter and need to get to Colchester,
Ipswich or London, but want a home surrounded by
outstanding natural beauty then I can see how the
new development would work for you too.
A study/workspace that has a very different character
to the rest of your home will make you feel like you are
in a very different environment. For me, even though
I write and work at home a lot, it is important that I
have a clear divide between work and home life.
Can you give new buyers any tips on how to make a
house their home?
A house only becomes a home when you personalise
it. This means filling it with furniture and belongings
that reflect your personal taste and style. And don’t
be afraid to be brave with colour.
Finally, we can’t avoid mentioning our faithful fourlegged friends. Is the huge rise in the number of dogs,
and pets in general, being reflected in the way we use
our spaces, both inside, and out?
We are a nation that loves dogs, cats and pets. That
is another reason why we need access to outside
spaces from our homes as much as possible.
There is nothing better than getting out there for a
walk with your dog in any weather!
“The homes at Manningtree
Park are well-proportioned, and
I’m impressed by the design of
the traditional windows, the
brickwork and the horizontal
timber facades, which have
very much been inspired by the
vernacular architecture of north
Essex and Suffolk.”
