Special Olympics Maryland and the Department of Recreation, Parks, and
Tourism in a partnership offer a year-round program for athletic conditioning,
training, and competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities who
are at least eight years of age. There is no maximum age limit. All Special
Olympics sports activities are free of charge to athletes. Currently, Special
Olympics Charles County offers a chance to compete in ten Olympic-style
sports annually. Online registration is available at www.CharlesCountyParks.
com and required to participate in Special Olympics Sports.

REGISTRATION • All athletes and unified partners must
register before training. Register before the deadline to enable
verification of paperwork. No registrations will be accepted for
bowling, or golf after the September 14 deadline.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED • Create opportunities for our athletes.
Volunteers are an important part of the Special Olympics
program. Please consider volunteering your time with this
worthwhile program. For details call 571-926-2608.
COACHING OPPORTUNITIES • Coaches must be 18
years or older and are subject to a criminal background
investigation. Training is offered. For details email
SpecialOlympicsCharlesCounty@gmail.com.
UPDATING MEDICALS • The policy of Special Olympics
MD is that ALL medical/volunteer applications must be
updated every three years. This is required before a
participant can attend training. To determine your status,
please email SpecialOlympicsCharlesCounty@gmail.com.
Coaches will enforce this policy.
UNIFIED SPORTS® • Unified Sports® is a unique
opportunity for traditional Special Olympics athletes
and partners (without intellectual disabilities, with
similar ability levels) to train and compete as a team
against other Unified Sports teams. We currently offer
this opportunity in basketball, bocce, ten-pin bowling,
and golf.
