Alana Redmond, a teacher at Pakeman
Primary in Islington, told us about Amir*
in Year 2, who had made 2 years9 worth
of reading progress in just one year while
reading with a Chapter One volunteer.
She said Amir was a very quiet child but
his confidence and reading fluency had
massively improved over the course of
his Chapter One year.

Pupils also made very positive gains in reading

motivation and enjoyment), by an average of 11.6%
from the start of the programme to the end.
