The Country Club of Farmington
History
Oldest Club in Connecticut, established just seven years after the first course in U.S.
Site
Situated on 105 acres in the center of Farmington, Connecticut, the heart of the Farmington
Valley. Entrance to the Club is located at the junctions of Routes 4 and 10.
Golf Course
The Country Club is a traditional golf club. The original course was designed by Arthur H. Fenn
as a 9 hole course. Devereux Emmet then redesigned the course to be 18 holes with rolling hills
and an abundance of bunkers. Water, in the Farmington River, guards holes 10 and 11, while on
number 17, a pond must be crossed to an elevated green. This superb layout, with three sets of
tees, make it gorgeous and demanding.
Play
A limited golf membership assures uncrowded playing conditions, as well as affording leisurely
three & one half to four-hour playing times.
Membership
Total golf membership is limited by the club’s by-laws to a maximum of 300. All golfing
members, in addition to the respective initiation fee must purchase a $100.00 Equity Share.
Club Amenities
Built in 1775 by Colonel Fisher Gay, the original Clubhouse was destroyed by fire in 1901 and
rebuilt in March, 1902. The current structure includes additions for the ballroom, men’s locker
room and in 1991 the construction of a beautiful patio behind the first tee. The patio was
updated in 2019; with the removal of the awning and construction of a covered patio. 2022
saw the construct of 3 outdoor firepits with seating overlooking the 18th green.
Club Management
In accordance with the Club By-Laws, the central governing body of the Club is a Board of
Governors elected by the membership. To assist the Board, various committees comprised of
Club members supervise and guide Club functions.
