importance of local elections, special interest
groups don’t make that mistake.
Here in Southwest Florida those special
interests tend to be developers looking for local
government to pick up the tab for their project
infrastructure, or rubber stamp development
applications.
Special interests may include corporate charter
school advocates looking to supplant public
schools.
In Florida, charter schools are exempt from
legal requirements to provide services for
students with special needs. These students
and the costs of educating them are the
responsibility of the public schools, which have
fewer resources to allocate to their need when
