“You’re Not Going to Find It”
I began researching local dark money in 2015,
when I wrote a column titled “Prince of Dark
Money” for SRQ Magazine. That account
documented my research tracking the origins
of the $45,000 donation from Phoenix Media
LLC to the PAC Citizens Against Taxation.
Citizens Against Taxation financed mailers
supporting Bridget Ziegler’s 2014 campaign for
school board, as well as mailers which
attacked her opponent, Ken Marsh. Ziegler
told our local paper, the Sarasota Herald
Tribune, that she had no control over the
groups helping her.
Herald Tribune reporter, Jeremy Wallace,
interviewed Eric Robinson about the PAC
donation. Eric Robinson, the chairman,
registered agent and treasurer of Citizens
Against Taxation, refused to disclose the
identity behind Phoenix Media and the mailers.
