Most voters arenÕt going to look up the political
committees named as the funding source behind
mailers, billboards, text messages, advertisements
or robocalls. But some will, and hopefully the
press does. When they do, the PACÕs Þnancing
often is not fully clear until well after the election.
Due to campaign Þnance reporting deadline in
Florida, there is no real time transparency. Real
time transparency IS doable, and it would serve
voters. With our current rules, a PACÕs Þnancial
reporting can be months behind the election.
Take ÒFriends for Bridget ZieglerÓ. This is the Þrst
PAC where a local candidate for County oûce
served as the chairman of her namesake PAC
while she was running for oûce. Eric Robinson,
her campaign treasurer, is also the treasurer for
ÒFriends of Bridget ZieglerÓ (FOBZ). (
