(CII IL) organised the
18th edition of Automotive Supply Chain
conference on February 21, 2024,
Wednesday at Eros Hotel, Nehru
Place, New Delhi.
Dr Surendra Ahirwar, Joint
Secretary – Logistics, Department
for Promotion of Industry and
Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry,
delivered the inaugural address,
wherein he encouraged industry
professionals to take advantage
of the various policy initiatives
promoted by the centre under
the PM GatiShakti mission. He
also highlighted key aspects of
the Production Linked Incentive
(PLI) Scheme for the automobile
and auto components sector,
emphasising two critical drivers of
growth: the continuous evolution
of technology and the increasing impact of climate policies.
Shahzad Alam, Special Commissioner Department of Transport,
Government of Delhi in his
keynote address expressed his
concern on three critical aspects
of road transportation: pollution,
safety, and the e昀케cient 昀氀ow of
passenger and cargo tra昀케c.
The summit was organised
around: ambition, credibility, and
implementation as the three key
pillars driving the sentiments and
broader objectives of the industry.
The subject topic of session 1 was
‘Enabling Global Competitiveness
through Supply Agility’, session 2
was on ‘Building Forward-Looking
Logistics Capabilities’, and session
3 provided a walk through on
‘Developing Tech-Enabled Disrup84 | CARGOCONNECT MARCH 2024
tion Risk Management’.
Session 1 delved into the
essential values guiding supply
chain decisions, whether prioritising e昀케ciency or responsiveness,
and the factors in昀氀uencing this
choice. Furthermore, it explored
the fundamental design principles
of supply chains, considering
factors like customer priorities,
market demands, and technological advancements. The
discussion also encompassed
shifts in customer priorities
and their impact on supply
chain strategies. Additionally,
the panellists analysed the role
of supply chain management in
enhancing business competitiveness, highlighting its contribution to cost e昀케ciency, customer
satisfaction, and market agility.
During session 2, panellists extensively discussed the
dynamic nature of companies'
customer-facing networks and
delivery capabilities, emphasising
their continual adaptation to
market changes. With 昀氀uctuating
demand scenarios and potential
export growth, it became evident
that companies and logistics service providers must proactively
anticipate and invest in capacities
and infrastructure to stay ahead.
Session 3 delved into wide
array of topics surrounding the
integration of emerging technologies like IoT, AI, and Blockchain
into supply chain operations
were explored. The importance
of striking a harmonious balance
between technology adoption
and human capital development
was also highlighted. Through a
successful case study, attendees
gained insights into how the
introduction of new technology
within the supply chain led to
signi昀椀cant workforce upskilling, positively impacting
overall productivity and
morale.
