Centre to use hydrogen fuel in transport, issues
guidelines for pilot projects
T
he government has issued
guidelines for undertaking
pilot projects for using
green hydrogen in the transport
sector. The scheme guidelines for
implementation of pilot projects
for use of green hydrogen in the
transport sector were recently
issued by the Ministry of New
and Renewable Energy (MNRE)
under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
Under the National Green
Hydrogen Mission, along with
other initiatives, the MNRE will
implement pilot projects for replacing fossil fuels in the transport
sector with green hydrogen and
its derivatives. These pilot projects
will be implemented through the
Ministry of Road Transport and
Highways (MoRTH) and
the scheme implementing
agencies (SIAs) nominated
under this scheme.
The scheme will
support development
of technologies for use
of green hydrogen as a
fuel in buses, trucks and
four-wheelers, based on
fuel cell-based propulsion
technology/ internal combustion engine-based propulsion
technology. The other thrust
area for the scheme is to support
development of infrastructure
such as hydrogen refuelling stations, the ministry said.
The scheme will also seek to
support any other innovative use
of hydrogen for reducing carbon
emissions in the transport sector,
such as blending of methanol/
ethanol based on green hydrogen and other synthetic fuels
derived from green hydrogen in
automobile fuels, it said.
The scheme will be implemented with a total budgetary
outlay of `496 crores till the
昀椀nancial year 2025-26.
Draft policy to chart Delhi’s
course to logistics excellence
T
he Delhi government has
come up with a draft city
logistics policy aimed at
decongesting the city by setting
up a network of freight villages
and micro-delivery hubs and
relocating logistics infrastructure
to the periphery of the national
capital. This comprehensive
policy, crafted by the Industries
Department, encompasses a wide
range of recommendations covering regulatory frameworks for
the movement of goods vehicles,
land-use planning, infrastruc-
ture enhancements, operational
improvements, and extensive
technology integration.
According to industries
department officials, the 'City
Logistics Policy' draft has been put
in public domain by the Industries
department for having feedback
of stakeholders like transporters,
logistics agencies, traders and
industry before finalising and
notifying the policy. The draft
policy recommends setting up
three urban consolidation and
logistics distribution centers
(UCLDCs) or freight villages at
the periphery of the city along
Delhi-Jaipur, Delhi-Faridabad
highways and Delhi-Meerut
expressway. The freight villages
will be equipped with all modern
facilities for handling, storage,
sorting, consolidations, and distribution of goods thereby catering
to key commodities arriving and
leaving Delhi, at peripheral roads.
The policy recommends
implementation of Delhi Master
Plan 2041 suggestion of shifting
wholesale storage and warehousing activities to Integrated Freight
Complexes (IFCs) and proposed
UCLDCs in order to decongest
the freight hotspots.
