5.13 Fittings
SIGNS
Ensure the following in the design and construction documentation for signs:
− One building sign is required to identify the building;
− Signs are required to identify each space within the building;
− Clarify the sign type and design with Camden Council; and
− Supply and install all signs required in accordance with current regulation requirements.
What is not suitable in the design for signs in a Public Building?
− Adhesive Vinyl Signs
− Signs that act as artwork across a door
− Bins with plastic inserts, with the exception of very high profile building types
− Hooks mounted to the rear of doors in wet areas – this does not include cubicle doors
5.14 Public Art
Establish an element that is part of the building fabric that will be an element of art in the building.
This element will be designed by a professional public artist in accordance with the Camden Council
Public Art Policy.
The theme of the artwork is to represent ‘place’.
The following opportunities exist to include artwork in public buildings. Ensure that artwork is not
applied to an element of a public building that will need to be replaced in the future, such as door leafs,
removable panels and similar.
− Natural Ventilation Systems
− Brickwork Walls
− Security Screens
− Footpaths | Paving
− Fences including fence panels
− Floors
− Signage
− Tiling
5.15 Graffiti
Graffiti is frequently applied to public buildings in the Camden LGA.
Formulate a written graffiti strategy that does not include the use of an anti-graffiti applied paint coating
and incorporate the approved strategy in the design.
