SCREENS
Security Screens
A Security Screen is a fully welded mild steel Rectangular Hollow Frame or similar with laser cut,
perforated metal plate, steel bar or similar insert to create a secure barrier.
Ensure the following in the design and construction documentation for security screens:
− A Security Screen may be a sliding or hinged operable door;
− The insert should include an artistic impression or design to enhance the visual impact; and
− All external Security Screens shall be deadlocked, automatic self closing and able to be held in the open
position as required.
Insect Screens
An Insect Screen is an Aluminium Frame with Stainless Steel mesh or perforated panel insert panel with
Powdercoat Finish.
Ensure the following in the design and construction documentation for insect screens:
− An Insect Screen may be a sliding or hinged operable door;
− The insert panel should be Crimsafe, Clearshield or equal approved; and
− All external Insect Screens shall be lockable, automatic self closing and able to be held in the open
position as required.
DOOR HARDWARE
Ensure the following in the design and construction documentation for door hardware:
− Fix door hardware all the way through a solid core timber door rather than to just one side;
− Pull handles are required to doors to public toilet facilities where the door is external. Door handles are
not suitable for these locations; and
− Include strike protection plates for all external doors to ensure doors cannot be kicked open.
KEYING
Confirm all keying with Camden Council prior to commencement of works.
5.11 Insulation
Install insulation in accordance with the National Construction Code and ensure insulation is installed to
all of the full extent of all of the following locations:
− Roof
− External Framed Walls
− Internal Framed Walls
− Framed Floors
5.12 Fixtures
What is not suitable in the design for fixtures in a Public Building?
− Handles for mixers and taps that can unscrew from their base
− Powdercoat finish to sinks, basins, taps and similar
