Expressed joints, flushed joints and PVC jointing systems in Fibre Cement Sheet Cladding and Lining are
not suitable. A ‘V’ butt joint is suitable.

Materials
The materials used as components in a public building must meet the following longevity, maintenance,
and sustainability criteria:
− Recycled, re-usable and repurposed materials should be used where possible. This includes selection
of such materials that can be re-used at the end of their life;
− Locally sourced and renewable sources should be sought;
− Materials and finishes should be hard wearing and require a low level of maintenance; and
− Low or no emission products where possible.
What is not suitable in the design for materials in Public Buildings?
− Sheet Carpet
− Floor Vinyl Tiles
− Painted white surfaces to low level up to 2100mm space above finished floor or ground level

− Extended use of white segmental pavers
− Rendered wall surfaces
− Items fixed to the surface of external walls
− Timber floor surfaces
− Coloured anodised finish to aluminium surfaces
− The cores of brickwork exposed to surfaces of the building
− Any twin wall sheet system with a total wall thickness of less than 50mm
− Metal mesh as substitute to a perforated metal panel
FLOOR
Ensure the following in the design and construction documentation for floor material selections:
− Carpet to be low pile carpet tiles – Interface Commercial Carpet Tile or equal approved;
− Floor Vinyl to be commercial grade sheet vinyl with continuous welded joints;
− An epoxy seamless floor system is a suitable alternative to most locations where floor vinyl is noted in
Data Sheets; and
− Floor Tiles to be larger format with a minimum 300x300 millimetres dimension each.
