5.4.16 Stairs
Stairs may be provided within open spaces where there is no other way to provide compliant access via
a path or ramp. All stairs should be designed to meet current applicable regulation including provision of
tactile indicators, handrails, nosing contrast etc. Refer to handrail detail as detailed in CSLD.
5.4.17 Waste
Camden Council is committed to providing high quality and convenient waste infrastructure to promote
responsible waste disposal. The following guidelines apply:
− Bins should be located in areas that are free from inundation and can be easily accessed from the street;
− Bin size, design and locking mechanism should be provided as per the standard details in CSLD;
− Bins are not to be placed more than 75 metres from the waste collection location;
− Bin enclosures and bin stands must accommodate 240 Litre bins; and
− Bin stands should be used in low profile areas with bin enclosures used in high profile areas.
Parks
− Local parks should not have garbage bins installed.
− Where infrastructure (e.g. playground or picnic setting) is installed refer to the specific requirements as
stated below.
− District and regional parks should have at least one garbage bin located at each park entry.
Playgrounds
− At least one garbage bin should be provided within close proximity of a playground.
− Dog bag dispensers should not be included on any bins within 25 metres of a playground.
Drainage Areas and Transmission Easements
− There should be at least one garbage bin located close to each entry.
− Bin locations to be agreed upon with the service providers.
− There should be a minimum distance of 100 metres between bins.
Sportsgrounds
− Local, regional and national sportsgrounds should have at least one garbage bin located at each park
entry,.
− Local, regional and national sportsgrounds should have at least one garbage bin within 25 metres of each
sportsfield,.
− There should be no bins near a clubhouse/canteen,.
− When a waste storage room is located within a sportsground building a collection point with a hardstand
will need to be located and approved by Council. Refer to CPBDM.
