Drainage and Easement Areas
The use of fencing in drainage and easement areas should be limited to areas which can not be made
safe through other design measures. Ensure that all fencing proposed meets the requirements of all
current applicable regulation and the following:
− Demonstrate design methodology which reduces the need for safety fencing around drainage and
easement areas;
− Where fencing is necessary, it should be of creative, quality design with an aesthetic that fits the
surrounding context;
− Fences should generally be 1 metre high; and
− Temporary fencing can be used to protect new planting during establishment. A typical detail can be found
in the CSLD.
Sportsgrounds
Sports fields should have a perimeter fence in accordance with the minimum facility provision table in the
Sportsground Facility data sheet for quantities. Each site will have unique considerations and fencing is to
be designed in response to the needs and context of its location.
Determination of the level of facility will determine the requirement for facility fencing vs field of play
fencing which is now a requirement of sports to separate players and spectators.
Camden Council does not encourage the full fencing of sportsgrounds. Sportsgrounds are public land
and serve a valuable community function for both physical activity and social wellbeing. Where it is
necessary to fence an entire sportsground, it should be a 1.8 metre high steel post and chain mesh
fence. Refer to CSLD.
5.4.11 Water Station
Camden Council is committed to providing availability of accessible drinking water in parks, playgrounds
and sportsgrounds. Having accessible water can make an immense difference to the usability of the
space and enable a user to stay longer and enjoy the space. The following guidelines apply:
− At least one water station/bubbler should be located within close proximity to any park;
− At least two water stations/bubbler should be located within close proximity to any sportsground;
− Dog bowls should not be included on any water station/bubbler within 10 metres of a playground;
− Refer to facility data sheet for quantities; and
− Water stations/bubblers should be provided as per the standard detail in CSLD.
