5.4.9 Barbeque and picnic settings
The provision of public barbeques should be considered in areas where longer stays are envisaged. The
following guidelines apply to all barbecue and picnic setting parks:
− Barbeques should generally only be provided in areas with access to public toilets;
− Barbeques should not be an automatic inclusion into sports facilities but to be based on complementary
community use;
− Barbeques should be electric and be equipped with timer operation to minimise energy waste;
− Weatherproof shelter should be provided over all barbeques;
− Picnic settings should be located in areas of natural shade or must be provided with a shade structure.
− Where picnic settings are provided a minimum of one setting must be designed to accommodate a
wheelchair user;
− A water supply point should be provided within 10 metres of a barbeque area; and
− Barbeque and picnic settings size and design should be provided as per the standard detail in CSLD.
