Design Guidelines – Site Boundary
The following design guidelines outline Camden Council’s minimum requirements for key design elements
at site boundaries for all open spaces within the Camden LGA. Guidelines must be followed unless
agreed with Camden Council prior to completion of design and construction documentation.
5.2.1 Perimeter Treatment
Good perimeter treatment allows for clear and legible entrance and circulation, connects to the street
network, activates the street and enables passive supervision of the area. To achieve this the following
guidelines apply:
− Wherever possible, it must be surrounded by a footpath in accordance with the relevant street section
detail for the surrounding streets. This allows for continuity and legibility in the street network and safe
dismounting from parked cars;
− Where no footpaths are allowed for on the surrounding streets, paths must be provided to address
connections to pram ramps on surrounding streets, provide sufficient perimeter access, allow for
dismounting from street side parking and enable clear view lines to the grounds; and
− The perimeter must be free of obstructions, such as continuous high and dense vegetation, to maintain
clear views and passive surveillance into the area from surrounding streets.
