5.1.4 Equal access
All public open spaces within the Camden LGA must to be accessible to all. Ensure that all public open
space facilities comply with all applicable current regulation including the Disability Discrimination
Act, National Construction Code, Australian Standard requirements and the like. In addition to current
applicable regulations with relation to equitable access for all, ensure that:
− At least one entry point to a public open space provides equitable access;
− All pedestrian paths within public open spaces provide equitable access. Where landform and other
obstructions prevent compliance with meeting current applicable regulations for equitable access, a
minimum of one key pedestrian thoroughfare is to meet current regulatory requirements for equitable
access;
− Significant points of interest in the public open space, such as play spaces, lookouts and any public
facilities must be connected with an equitable accessible path of travel;
− Where car parking spaces are provided, at least one accessible path of travel must be provided from the
car parking spaces to an entry point that provides equitable access to a public open space area; and
− Substantial upgrades to existing open spaces must take accessibility into account as a primary objective.
