2.8.1 What is a Sportsground?
A sportsground is an open space that primarily provides infrastructure for structured sporting activities,
for public use inside the Camden LGA. They can include an open space with a single sports field or a
series of sports fields.
2.8.2 What is a Sports field?
A sports field is a formalised playing area also known as the field of play for various sports located within
a sportsground.
A sports field includes the run off areas that a player is likely to enter while playing a match, such as the
area beyond the side lines in association soccer and rugby league. The surface of a sports field is most
commonly composed of turf, but may also be artificial turf, sand, clay, gravel, concrete, or other materials.
Camden Council has outlined the requirements for the design and construction of sports field in the
Camden Sports field Specification (CSFS).
