5.6.2 Staging the water flow
In order to maximise everyday usability of drainage areas and reduce maintenance, it is important to
consider staged design of stormwater flows. The following guidelines apply:
− Separate low flow, high frequency inundation areas from the main basin. Embellish these areas with
appropriate planting which will withstand frequent water flows; and
− Provide separate high flow, low frequency inundation basins that are designed to take water in more
infrequent rainfall events, opening up options for recreational use.
