Design Guidelines – Drainage
The following design guidelines outline Camden Council’s minimum requirements to promote sustainable
open spaces. Guidelines must be followed unless agreed with Camden Council prior to completion of
design and construction documentation.
5.6.1 Drainage
The following guidelines apply:
− All areas should be designed to allow unrestricted overland flow to the surrounding street network or other
well-draining open space;
− Stormwater drainage should be provided where required to avoid waterlogging and ponding;
− Any area that does not drain to a detention basin, a street, or other well-drained public open space should
incorporate stormwater drainage designed for 1 in 5 year flows;
− Intake pits should not be located within soft landscape areas such as lawns, garden beds, gravel, mulch
and loose soft fall;
− The location of GPTs should allow a hardstand inspection and maintenance point. A levelled hardstand
area must also be provided large enough to accommodate a 10 tonne truck and not more than 5 metres
from the GPT is required; and
− For sports field drainage detail and further information refer to the CSFS.
