Purpose
Camden Council would like to encourage open
space design that is considered, coordinated,
original, and responsive to site.
We would also like to provide an element of
consistency which will set a high standard of
finish, enable good maintenance practice, and
deliver excellent sustainability outcomes.
In view of that we have developed details on the
basis of the following quality requirements:
− Durability
− Constructability
− Consistency
− Universal accessibility
− Ease of maintenance
The document provides a proprietary (off the
shelf) specification for standardised items, and
prescriptive (precedent based) specification for
typical details.
Feature items such as retaining walls, shade
structures,
platforms,
pedestrian
bridges,
fencing and play equipment can be developed
as customised design solutions, subject to the
performance requirements set out in the relevant
design guidelines.
All new open space projects as well as upgrades
to existing sites should use the elements and
detailing specified in the appropriate details.
Exceptions may be considered where dictated by
site constraints and specific design intent. Any
proposal for alternative items would be assessed
against the quality requirements outlined above.
Camden Council will not accept substitutes of
inferior finish and design quality.

Special precincts, town centres and streets will be
guided by separate palettes.
− Recyclable
