Coopers started as a trout smokery, expanding (with the help of
a willing mother) to making and selling homemade meat pies to
the pub trade. Customers soon started asking for cocktail prawns
and breaded scampi and with the desire to develop Cooper Foods
further the early morning trips to Billingsgate began!
Mark Cooper started Cooper Foods in 1986 with Will Cooper joining him a
year later. Since then, with the support and hard work of a loyal workforce,
Cooper Foods has undergone an impressive transformation.
Since those early days the essence of Cooper Foods has not changed. Cooper
Foods offer products and a service that you, the customer are asking for. The
introduction of the 24 hour sales office and prep teams has made the service
offered by Cooper Foods second to none. The ability to talk to a real person
after your evening service has been found to be invaluable. In addition, with
competitiveness in mind, Cooper Foods has increased their product range,
offering great choices in other complimentary products such as meat, pastas
and desserts.
Cooper Foods’ aim is to carry on as the seafood wholesaler that they have
always been but adding a new dimension to our service. Cooper Foods provide
you, our customer, an all round easy one stop seafood and butchery service.
Since it's opening, the butchery department has expanded to such a degree
that in 2018 we doubled the size of our production area, and in 2019 built a
Bespoke Himalayan Salt Ageing Chamber for on the Bone Ageing of prime cuts
of Beef and Seasonal Lamb. With the continued hands-on day-to-day running
of the company by the two brothers, Cooper Foods will continue with all that
it holds dear: quality, service and value. There is one thing that you can be sure
of from a family run business, we are still listening to what you are saying and
what you are asking for!
Cooper Foods remains a seafood
wholesaler offering an extensive
range of fresh fish from around
the world. In doing so, a great deal
of care is taken with the sourcing,
quality and cost of selected seafood.
Purchasing, however, is based
around our core belief that native
species are the best for flavour and
freshness. For this reason Cooper
Foods still buy the majority of
English prime seafood from Brixham
(Devon) where there are still many
day boats. In fact certain products
such as skin-on skate will only be
brought from Brixham. As with
native seafood, exotic species need
to be ethical, affordable and of
high quality.
butchery
The Butchery department closely
reflects the core beliefs of the
seafood department, with many of
the products being sourced locally, if
possible, bearing in mind that Cooper
Foods want to offer you quality, price
and a service that is second to none.
alternatives
As with fresh produce, Cooper
Foods has been involved with the
development of various new frozen
products. In all that we develop
certain criteria are always adhered
to; cost, quality, and ease of use.
Whether you are looking for a new
angle on an old favourite (such as the
naked bass, cod and ginger fishcake)
or for something exotic (such as
the tropical sole fillets), there is
something for you.
