Buntingford First School
Key Stages 1 and
2 Curriculum
At Buntingford First School we will employ an enriching curriculum in
which ‘Education for Social Responsibility’ (ESR) will be pivotal. Central
to this is the belief that children bring with them to school considerable
and varied backgrounds of knowledge and experience. Foundation
subjects provide a means of building on such experiences and
introduce children to important areas contained within separate
subjects in an integrated way. We aim to provide children with the
ability to meet the unknown challenges of the twenty-first century. We
focus on developing children’s learning capacity so that they can
become positive, responsible citizens who can work and co-operate
with others while at the same time developing their knowledge and
skills, in order to be the best they can be.
Our curriculum will be innovative, creative and flexible allowing personalisation and
offering support and challenge for all of our children. This provides opportunities for
all our children to enhance and develop their knowledge and skills. We want the
curriculum, not only to engage and excite the children about their learning, but also to
raise standards.
Buntingford First School
Through real life experiences, extra-curricular activities and WoW Days, our
schemes of learning will ensure that all children achieve the best educational
outcome, alongside developing their confidence, social, and emotional skills. Through
varied activities the children foster curiosity and interest in every aspect of the
curriculum.
Welcome
English and mathematics will be delivered daily to ensure children develop the
essential skills for accessing the wider curriculum and prepare them for transition to
the middle phase of their education. Opportunities for reading are planned
throughout all areas of the curriculum. As part of our approach to learning, we believe
that experiences outside the classroom are vital to children’s learning. Class outings
and visitors will be an integral part of our curriculum, supporting the children’s
learning and development; and enabling the acquisition of knowledge and skills
based upon first-hand learning experiences.
