Education for a changing world
12
Starting School
The curriculum is the medium through which the school sets out to
achieve these aims and the ethos of the school is determined by the
manner in which the curriculum is delivered, and by those values
and attitudes which underpin the teaching and learning.
Before starting at school there will be a series of meetings for parents and children
which will provide you with opportunities to talk to the staff and ask any questions
regarding the Early Years Foundation Stage approach and our starting and settlingin procedures.
Parents will also have a home visit at the start of the Reception year where we have
the chance to see your child in their home environment where they are relaxed and
at ease. This gives us the opportunity to talk to parents on a more private level and to
find out more about your child’s personality.
Buntingford First School
You can help your child to settle in to a routine more easily if you can encourage
him/her to be independent and be able to do the following things:
Respond to their name
Go to the toilet alone
Wash their hands
Put their coat and shoes on
Tidy toys away
Buntingford First School will be a friendly, welcoming place where the children feel
happy and safe.
The children will have a staggered start to transition to school as this gives you, your
child and the staff the chance to get to know each other and to settle into EYFS as
smoothly as possible. You will be welcome to stay for a short time and settle your
child at the start of the day to support transition at the beginning of the year.
