1. OLLI at the Movies: In the Shadow of the Stars

Peoria Riverfront Museum
Continuing Education9s very own Dan Stanley,
former opera singer with the San Francisco Opera,
will share his insights on In the Shadow of the
Stars. Winner of the 1991 Academy Award for Best
Documentary Feature, this 昀lm is a hilarious and
affectionate look at the path to stardom inside
the competitive world of opera. Dan was with
the Opera during the last season they 昀lmed this
inspiring documentary that presents an inside look
at the San Francisco Opera Chorus members9 lives
as they balance artistry with the personal sacri昀ces
required to be part of such a prestigious ensemble.

Knee: Native America from 1890 to Present by
David Treuer

3. Spotlight on Local Businesses
Monday, February 10
1:00 3 2:30 p.m.
Peoria Next Innovation Center
There are amazing stories of successful businesses
in the Peoria area. Join us to hear the story of two
of these businesses. Foster Jacob is the largest
electrical contractor in Central Illinois. Emily
Jacob-Rudesill, the fourth generation of the Jacob
family to run the business, will talk about the rich
history of the business. The second business, Bard
Optical, was founded by Diana Hall and today her
son, Mick, is president. Bard Optical started as a
single store and today is one of the largest optical
companies in the United States with operations
throughout Central Illinois. Mick Hall will tell the
story of how his mother started the company and
how it has grown.
