3. The Early Universe
Ever wonder how the universe evolved after the
Big Bang? In this class, we will learn about the
昀椀rst million years of the universe, the 昀椀rst 昀椀ve
minutes, the 昀椀rst second, and the 昀椀rst trillionth
of a second. Each step backward is more exotic
and unfamiliar. We will learn about the Cosmic
Microwave Background, the Dark Ages, Big Bang
Nucleosynthesis, Baryogenesis, and Cosmic
In昀氀ation. Last year’s course on “Expansion of the
Universe” is useful and is available on YouTube, but
not a prerequisite.
$20 – Class instructor is Walter Urbaniak, a retired
computer networking engineer with a personal
interest in physics and a frequent OLLI instructor
on various topics within that discipline.
4. Medicare - New and Improved &
How Will It Work For You?
Join returning presenter, Teresa Hagen, who will
help prepare you with Medicare basics, upcoming
changes, and more. This class will discuss what’s
new in 2025, important Medicare enrollment rules,
including when to enroll, how to enroll, and why
(or why not) to enroll with Medicare. We’ll de昀椀ne
the Medicare alphabet with acronyms ... AEP, OEP,
SEP, PDP, PARTS A, B, C, & D and/or PLANS F, G, N
and beyond! Join us to listen, learn, or, perhaps,
review important updates.
$20 – Class instructor is Teresa Hagen, licensed
independent insurance broker, specializing in
individual health insurance and all things Medicare.

5. Beyond the Beads:
Magical Mystery of Today’s Mardi Gras
Over 1.5 million people visit New Orleans for Mardi
Gras. This diverse city with an eclectic mix of cultures
hosts a multicultural celebration with costumes,
crafting, king cake, community events, music, art,
house decorations and parades (neighborhood,
walking, and gigantic “super Krewe” parades).
The 2025 season will start January 6 and last for
two months. Judy Helm will Zoom from her New
Orleans home (also the den for Krewe de Jeanne
d’Arc) during February. You will learn about the
history and evolution of Mardi Gras and vicariously
experience Mardi Gras through photos, videos, and
interviews. King Cake recipe included!

6. Uncovering More of Pop Culture’s Philosophies
Behind, within, and beneath popular culture lies a
slew of philosophical concepts and assumptions
that are played out on screen. These philosophies
lie hidden and often go unnamed until someone
with a philosophical background brings them
forth. Learn what these philosophies are and how
they have shaped the generations of today and
the culture of the nation and the world.
$20 – The class instructor is Bill Dohle who
has taught numerous OLLI study groups and
classes. He is currently a pastor at King of Kings
Lutheran Church in Pueblo, Colorado, and is an
adjunct professor in the religion and philosophy
department at Colorado State University Pueblo.

7. Critical Economics Topics for 2025
A knowledge of economics helps us to better
understand the world around us, including people,
business, markets, and government. In this class,
you will grow your economic literacy and improve
your ability to comprehend critical economic
issues for 2025. Jon Haveman, Executive Director
of the National Economic Education Delegation,
and his colleagues will present a U.S. Economic
Update and then provide their economist
perspectives on trade and globalization, the
economics of taxes, and federal debt.

8. Math in the Movies and on TV
Mathematics appears everywhere – and, yes, it
can be fun and funny. In this class, we’ll explore
how math shows up in everyday life, movies,
and television, with entertaining examples that
highlight its relevance and humor. You will
see movie and television clips illustrating this.
Through engaging clips, we’ll discover quirky
math moments, such as the scarecrow in The
Wizard of Oz famously getting his formula wrong.
Whether you’re a math enthusiast or someone
who’s always been a bit wary, this class will reveal
the lighter side of numbers and equations.
