2. What Was Here Before?
Most of us are likely to recall what used to sit at the
“junction” of Prospect Road and North Knoxville
Avenue (Hint: “You could enjoy a meal sitting
inside a magic carpet made of steel”), but how
many former factories, distilleries, and businesses
can you place at their original location around the
Peoria area? We’ll take a journey back in time to
explore our rich history of manufacturing in areas
such as Averyville and East Peoria. We’ll discuss
retail businesses, including those once found
within walking distance of Bradley’s campus, and
the various neighborhoods and establishments
displaced by the construction of Interstate 74
through the area. Perhaps you will have a fond
memory of a certain place to share with the class!
$15 – Class instructor is Randy Couri, retired
electrician, past president and current historian of
the ITOO Society and past president and current
treasurer of the Peoria County Genealogy Society.

3. Global Warming: How Does It Work?
Why does carbon dioxide in the atmosphere heat,
not cool, the Earth? How is the atmosphere opaque
for some infrared wavelengths? Would reducing
emissions now have much effect on Earth’s
temperature? Let’s see what we can calculate
without being climate scientists. Join us for a
technical dive into the mathematics and science of
global warming from an unbiased perspective.
$15 – Class instructor is Walter Urbaniak, a retired
computer networking engineer with a personal
interest in physics and a frequent OLLI instructor
on various topics within that discipline.

American politics is rife with debates about how
involved the United States should be with other
countries in the world. This class will explore two
perspectives, including a discussion of de昀椀nitions
of terms, the bene昀椀ts of each perspective, and the
costs of each perspective.
