Learning Trips
Learning trips are educational travel experiences
that enable you to interact with experts who
offer behind-the-scenes looks at area businesses,
regional attractions, and multi-day domestic/
international destinations.
A detailed itinerary will be emailed to you prior to
the trip.
To make your trip even more enjoyable, please note:
• all learning trip times in this brochure are
approximate and subject to change. Please
refer to your itinerary email for speci昀c
departure, tour, and arrival times.
• All participants must wear closed-toed shoes
on all trips to ensure safety and to respect our
hosts9 regulations.
PARKING
All trips depart from CampusTown
Shopping Center, 1200 W. Main, near
Bradley9s campus. We reserve parking
for participants on trip days between the entrance
of CampusTown and the Shell gas station.
ACTIVITY LEVELS
Before you register,
make sure the activity
level matches your
abilities. This will
ensure an enjoyable
trip for you and those
who travel with you.
Activity Level 1
All trips listed in this section require participants to
enter/exit shuttle with minimal assistance, climb
some stairs, and walk a few blocks indoors or out.
1. River Kitty Cafe and
Peoria County Animal Protection Services
(PCAPS)
Thursday, January 30
9:45 a.m. 3 3:30 p.m.
Spend a heartwarming day exploring the love
and care that our community provides for our
furry friends. Start your morning at the River
Kitty Café, Peoria’s 昀rst full-time cat cafe, where
coffee, cats, and companionship combine in a
cozy atmosphere. We will learn more about how
this cafe fosters cats and increases adoptions from
Peoria County Animal Protection Services (PCAPS).
In the afternoon, we will head to PCAPS for an
exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the animal
shelter and animal control operations. Learn from
the PCAPS Director about local animal control
laws, day-to-day activities at the shelter, and how
you can get involved in helping abandoned or
neglected animals in our community. Please note
that this trip will involve exposure to cats and
other animals.
$40 – includes guided tour, lunch at a local
restaurant, gratuities, and shuttle transportation.
2. Hindu Temple of Central Illinois
Tuesday, February 25
10:45 a.m. 3 3:30 p.m.
The Hindu Temple of Central Illinois is Peoria9s
place of worship for the Hindu faith. Founded
in 1994, the Temple serves over 1,000 families
with weekly activities and serves as the religious,
cultural, and philosophical hub of the Hindu
community. During our visit to the facility located
atop the Temple Creek Road hill, we will enjoy a
short tour of the Temple, listen to a presentation
about the beliefs and practices of the Hindu
religion, learn about the Sanctum (the shrine
inside the Temple), and watch as priests perform a
short Pooja (prayer ritual).
$35 3 includes guided tour, lunch at a local
restaurant, gratuities, and shuttle transportation.
Activity Level 2
All of Level 1 requirements plus be able to stand for
over an hour, climb some 昀ights of stairs, and walk
on uneven surfaces.

3. Sophia9s Kitchen and
January
St. Joseph9s Church

Tuesday, January 14
11:00 a.m. 3 3:30 p.m.
Sophia9s Kitchen feeds 500 people each day. Join
OLLI as we visit this kitchen, staffed by a dedicated
group of volunteers who make hundreds of
peanut butter and jelly sandwiches daily! We9ll
昀nd out where they get their food donations and
how they serve Peoria9s homeless, unemployed,
and underemployed. Under the direction of the
Catholic diocese, Sophia9s Kitchen is located
next to historic St. Joseph9s Church.
