Study Groups In-Person
Study Groups offer an opportunity to investigate
a topic in depth. Most study groups typically
meet once a week for four to six weeks.

Michael Bohn, Bridge enthusiast and talented

Books worth reading plus experienced facilitators
3 all we need is you! Please join us in beginning
the new year reading and discussing a quintet of
acclaimed novels spanning nearly 200 years. This
study group will meet every two weeks so that you
will have time to read each of the featured novels
before we discuss them together.

Enjoy watching from home, then discussing, four
international 昀lms. Each will require reading
subtitles and will be available to stream for low or
no cost. Participants may be invited to contribute
to the group with assigned small research topics
such as the biography of an actor/actress or
comparing various movie reviews.

2. Bridge I
Mondays, January 6 3 February 24

Bridge is an excellent way to stimulate your
mind, enjoy a social environment, and learn
to play a fun game. This group will follow the
American Contract Bridge League9s foundational
curriculum of hand evaluation, bidding, and card
play. Beginners will learn the basics of the game
and get ready to play with friends and relatives.
We will play hands during each session. The text,
Bidding in the 21st Century, will be provided free
of charge. We will cover opening, bids, responses,
competitive bids, play of the hand concepts, and
defensive strategies.
4. Mah Jongg for Novices
Tuesdays, January 7 3 February 11
4:30 3 6:30 p.m.
Peoria Next Innovation Center
American Mah Jongg is a fascinating game of
skill and chance, with a little luck rolled in. We
will start with the basics of the game 3 identifying
the #26 tiles, understanding the rules, reading
the card 3 and move on to actual game play with
plenty of oversight and support. This course is for
the beginner starting from scratch. The goal will
be to have you tossing tiles with the best of them
by the end of the group. Join Dan Stanley, a 20year Mah Jongg enthusiast who has taught many
opera singers to play while waiting for their call to
the stage (but you don9t have to be able to sing to
learn to play).
