our national parks attract hundreds
of millions of visitors each year. Their popularity,
however, has led to challenges, such as overuse and
limited funding. In this class, we will explore the
history of the parks and the park system, and learn
about some of the individuals who helped make
these natural wonders part of our national heritage.
We9ll also take a closer look at a handful of wellknown parks, and a few hidden gems with which
many may not be familiar.

Ancient Rome
Spectator sports in ancient Rome were
just as popular, if not more so, than they are today.
The big difference, of course, is that the athletes
could4and frequently did4die! In this class, we9ll
learn about the men who entertained the ancient
Romans. We will explore the two main sports of
chariot racing and gladiator 昀ghts, using evidence
from ancient writings, art, archaeology, and even
graf昀ti. We’ll also examine the arenas where these
games were held.

Creative Photography Techniques

Taking a photo is easy, but
transforming it into 昀ne art requires
creativity and thought. In this class, we9ll explore
various techniques and approaches to turn
ordinary photos into extraordinary works of art.
Using examples from his own 昀ne art photography,
Coke Mattingly will guide the class through
converting photos into styles like Impressionism,
Expressionism, Abstracts, and other exciting and
creative forms. He9ll also introduce software tools
for post-processing, along with methods for simply
adjusting how the image is captured.
