BENEFIT FOR OLLI MEMBERS
with a passion for horticulture and nature. He has
studied with bonsai master Tohru Suzuki in Japan,
is the current President of the North American
Bonsai Federation.
These national classes feature some of the best,
most experienced instructors across the Osher
network. These courses will provide Osher
members across the country with a means to
connect with each other and learn together while
maintaining membership at their local institute.
Online Fees and Details:
• National Osher Online $65 per class.
• Each class consists of six 90-minute sessions
which meets for six consecutive weeks.
• These are live lectures via Zoom and are NOT
recorded.
• The Osher NRC manages the courses and will
communicate directly with registrants.
• Space is limited per Osher Institute 3 be sure to
register early.
All Osher Online classes are held Online via
Zoom. After you register for a class, you will
receive a welcome email from the Osher NRC
with a username, password, and a link to the
Osher Online Website. This website will give you
access to all the information needed for your class
including orientation information, the class Zoom
link, syllabus, discussion board, and customer care
contact information.
1. Bonsai, An Ancient Art in Modern Times
Mondays, March 31 3 May 5
6:00 3 7:30 p.m.
Bonsai is a centuries-old practice of training trees
in containers to resemble those in nature. In
this course, we will explore the key components
of bonsai: horticulture, design, and technical
skills. We9ll learn how to maintain a healthy tree,
develop your own design style, and apply essential
techniques. Whether you are new to bonsai, have
experience, or are simply curious, this course
will guide you through the fundamentals of this
fascinating art form.

bonsai for over 18 years beginning as an enthusiast
2. Science Charcuterie
Thursdays, April 3 3 May 8
4:00 3 5:30 p.m.
In this course, intriguing bits are gathered up and
presented like a charcuterie board of tasty science
snacks. This class will contain just about anything
one might imagine including a little bit of color
theory, a morsel of genetic testing science, a
dash of airplane physics, some lightning theory, a
mouse that turns scorpion venom into a painkiller,
current scienti昀c thoughts on origins of life and a
lot of time to explore topics of interest to you.
$65 3 Your instructor, Kjir Hendrickson, PhD is
a professor of Molecular Sciences at Arizona
State University (ASU). A quantum chemist
whose academic work focuses on science
communication, matters of workplace climate,
and the reciprocal relationship between science
and society.
3. Car Crazy: 1950s Onward
Wednesdays, April 9 3 May 14
6:00 3 7:30 p.m.
We will explore key eras of automotive history,
as a way of understanding the profound impact
cars have on society and culture. We will
discuss the role of in昀uential designers (Ford
Mustang & Chevrolet Corvette), the creation of
iconic vehicles (Ford Nucleon) and the appeal of
visionary concept cars all of which highlight the
creativity and innovation of each era. Learn how
the worldwide car scene showcases the diversity
of human innovation and cultural expression,
cementing automobiles as both a tool of progress
and a re昀ection of societal evolution.
$65 3 Your instructor, Pandora Paul, is the former
curator at America9s Automotive Test and LeMay
America9s Car Museum in Tacoma, Washington.
She has served on the Board of Directors of the
National Association of Automobile Museums.
She loves to showcase vehicles that have not been
seen before and believes that automobiles are
snapshots of our culture.
