Who is James Martin?
J
ames Martin is a renowned British chef and
television presenter, best known for his decadelong tenure as the host of the BBC's Saturday
Kitchen, where he became a household name.
Born in Malton, North Yorkshire, in 1972, James
developed a passion for cooking at an early age,
inspired by his grandfather, who was a chef. His
culinary journey began in earnest at Scarborough
Technical College, after which he worked in several
prestigious restaurants across Europe, honing his
skills under the guidance of Michelin-starred chefs.
James's big break came in 1996 when he began
presenting Ready Steady Cook, which paved the
way for his prolific television career. However, it
was Saturday Kitchen, where he served as the host
from 2006 to 2016, that cemented his place as one
of the UK’s most beloved chefs. His easygoing style
and passion for hearty, approachable food made
him a favourite with viewers.
Beyond television, James Martin is also an
accomplished restaurateur. He owns several
restaurants, including James Martin Manchester
and the restaurants at The Lygon Arms, where
he brings his love of British ingredients to the
forefront. His menus often feature classic dishes
with a modern twist, celebrating local produce and
traditional flavours.
In addition to his restaurants and TV work, James
has authored numerous cookbooks, including
bestsellers like James Martin’s Great British
Adventure and Home Comforts. He has also
ventured into other culinary-related projects, such
as the launch of his own range of kitchen appliances.
