HELPING HERTS' JIM TATCHELL RAISES
OVER £1,400 FOR 12 LOCAL CHARITIES
THROUGH SKIPPING CHALLENGE
T
his February, Helping Herts,
a charity supporting children
and young adults across
Hertfordshire, held its annual 12 Miles
for 12 Charities Challenge. People across
the county walked, ran, cycled, swam,
and got creative to raise funds for 12 local
charities. But Helping Herts co-founder
Jim Tatchell decided to take things in a
different direction—by skipping his way
through the challenge!
Jim set himself the ambitious task
of completing 144 skips every single
day—12 skips for each of Helping Herts’
charity partners. Come rain or shine,
he kept going, even filming daily videos
to prove he wasn’t skipping out on the
challenge! Along the way, he inspired
others to join in, including Robbie Linsell
of Paragon Fitness in Bishop’s Stortford
and his neighbours Emma and Michelle,
who took part in the #skipalong every
weekend.
"To boxers and other experienced
skippers, that might not sound like
much, but for someone who had never
touched a skipping rope before, it was
"I’ve raised over
£1,400, which will
go to Helping Herts’
charity partners to
make a real difference
to the lives of children
and young people
across Hertfordshire"
definitely a challenge!" said Jim. "I’m so
pleased that after match funding and Gift
Aid, I’ve raised over £1,400, which will go
to Helping Herts’ charity partners to make
a real difference to the lives of children
and young people across Hertfordshire.
You are all amazing, and thinking of you
is what has kept me going on those cold,
damp February mornings!"
Jim originally set a fundraising target
of £750, as of Friday 28 February he had
reached £651, before match funding
doubled every pound donated,
significantly increasing the impact.
Elsewhere, the challenge saw fantastic
efforts from local schools, including
The Adeyfield Academy in Hemel
Hempstead, Simon Balle School in
Hertford, and St Albans Girls’ School,
who cycled 120 static miles for Herts
Mind Network as part of their "Pedal for
a Purpose" fundraiser.
With the skipping challenge complete,
Jim is now setting his sights on Helping
Herts’ next big event:"Now we shift our
focus to the Great Big Cycle for Herts
on 27th April—details can be found at
www.helpingherts.com, and I hope to
see you there!"
Gordon Morrison, co-founder of Helping
Herts said: "A huge thank you to Jim and
everyone who took part in this year’s
challenge. Together, we’re making a
real difference to young people across
Hertfordshire!"
