2023 Boston Private
Industry Council Interns
The Boston Private Industry Council (PIC) is a State-funded program that
connects Boston high school students to promising career pathways
and creates a diverse talent pipeline for local employers. Bergmeyer, a
participant in the PIC program since 2018, selected two interns in 2023
who received pay for a minimum of 24 hours a week in the o昀케ce. The
interns gained training on professional tools and software with oversight
from Bergmeyer's Director of Education and Training, Bill Spaulding.
The Interns' day-to-day interactions were managed by Bergmeyer's
emerging professionals, who created and managed a 6-week designbased program. Bergmeyer set up each week with a di昀昀erent design
challenge, and also brought this year's interns out into Boston for
spontaneous 昀椀eld trips around the city discussing where materials touch,
how light exposes life, and the importance of universal design revolving
around the people who experience the spaces. Time was also planned for
re昀氀ection and portfolio-building with Bergmeyer's graphics designers.
The program highlight was the 昀椀nal week when each student shared
their favorite project and presented it at the Boston Society for
Architects with other PIC interns. Bergmeyer is thrilled to share that the
2023 interns are currently pursuing further studies in interior design
and architecture. Bergmeyer looks forward to participating in the PIC
program again in 2024.
