2022 Boston Private
Industry Council Interns
The Boston Private Industry Council (PIC) is a State-funded program
that connects Boston high school students to promising career
pathways and creates a diverse talent pipeline for local employers.
Bergmeyer, a participant in the PIC program since 2018, selected
two interns in 2021 who received pay for a minimum of 24 hours a
week in the office. Allie Estrada and Virginia Lathrop gained training
on professional tools and software with oversight from Bergmeyer's
Director of Education and Training.
The Interns' day-to-day interactions were managed by
Bergmeyer's emerging professionals. The team created and managed
a six-week design-based program featuring a different challenge each
week. For example, last year's interns were given a design assignment by
the Shake Shack team with a field visit to the Seaport Shake Shack on
Tuesday, design work on Wednesday and Thursday, and a presentation
on Friday. Time was also planned for reflection and portfolio-building
with Bergmeyer's graphics designers. The program highlight was
the final week when each student shared their favorite project and
presented it at the Boston Society for Architecture with other PIC
interns.
Bergmeyer was thrilled to have Allie and Virginia return for a second
internship in 2022. Virginia is currently an interior design student at
the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, and Allie is studying
architecture at Wentworth Institute of Technology.
Bergmeyer looks forward to participating in the PIC program again
in 2023.
